    Must-reads for August 24, 2018

Here are the crypto stories you should be watching today and this weekend

It’s Getting Harder to Pump Up Prices in Cryptocurrency Markets (Bloomberg) Bloomberg’s Matt Leising is quickly becoming our personal hero. He faces a barrage of insults from cryptobros on Reddit and Twitter but instead of backing down, the intrepid reporter doubles down, noting, “It’s getting hard to pump amid the dump in the $209 billion cryptocurrency market. At least that appears to be the case when you look at Tether, one of the most-traded digital assets and also one that’s allegedly been used to manipulate the price of Bitcoin.” Stay strong, Matt. Defying logic, Kraken raises more red flags after attacking Bloomberg piece on Tether manipulation

Kraken’s defense of its business: an insult-and-expletive-laden diatribe

The second most interesting thing to happen in crypto this past weekend was the Bloomberg article dissecting thousands of tether trades on Kraken. Even more fascinating, however, was Kraken’s puerile response to that serious accusation made by one of the world’s largest financial news and data organizations. For those who don’t have time to dive into it (and we suspect that’s most of our audience), here’s the deal: On June 29, Bloomberg reporter Matthew Leising, along with Mira Rojanasakul, Demetrios Pogkas, and Brandon Kochkodin, published an analysis they performed on 56,000 tether trades conducted on the Kraken exchange between May 1 and June 22. Kraken is pretty much the only place…

Bloomberg tech host quits to join Ripple

Cory Johnson to become the crypto payments company’s chief market strategist

The new face of Ripple is, in fact, an old familiar one for many investors. Cory Johnson, who for many years served as a host on Bloomberg Television as well as editor-at-large, has joined the Ripple team to become the crypto payments company’s chief market strategist. Johnson announced his new job on Twitter, linking to a CNBC story about it: Big news- I’ve joined @Ripple as chief market strategist. $XRP https://t.co/XASghaYJAQ — Cory Johnson (@CoryTV) March 9, 2018 The move is so sudden that he has yet to update his LinkedIn profile though his bio has been scrubbed from Bloomberg’s website. Johnson, who was at Bloomberg for seven years, was…

Bloomberg host hilariously tears into blockchain fans, gets blocked on Twitter by CEO

Joe Weisenthal ridicules investor Naval Ravikant and other blockchain enthusiasts in a tweetstorm

Don’t expect AngelList CEO Naval Ravikant to appear on Bloomberg’s “What’d You Miss?” any time soon. That’s because the show’s co-host, Joe Weisenthal, took to Twitter to rip into Ravikant’s lofty pronouncements about blockchain technology. Here’s how it went down: It all began in Sunday morning from a tweet by from Shane Parish, the founder of something called Farnam Street. For those unfamiliar with it (we were on that list), the site’s “About” section says: “We address such topics as mental models, decision making, learning, reading, and the art of living.” According to Parish, he has “helped millions of people master the best of what other people have already figured…
