    The Bitcoin SV founder’s claim to be Satoshi Nakamoto was boosted by a copyright registration grant, but is still far from proven

    Craig Wright’s much-derided claim to be Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto got a big boost from the U.S. copyright office today. On May 21, the wealthy nChain founder was granted copyright registration for the original whitepaper—”Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System”—as well as the original Bitcoin source code.

    Binance restarts following $40 million hack

    The exchange announced it will be giving away $1.35 million of its Binance Coin exchange tokens; hacked Cryptopia exchange to liquidate

    Hacked cryptocurrency exchange Binance has restarted trading and withdrawals after a security update this morning. The exchange lost 7,070 bitcoins on May 7, when a hacker used phishing to beat its two-factor identification procedures. At the time, the loss was valued at about $40 million. Given the price jump in the past week from about $6,000 to nearly $8,000, the theft was worth almost $57 million at press time, according to CoinMarketCap.

    Following $40 million hack, Binance CEO suggests industry coalition to fight hackers

    Noting that the company has received support from many other exchanges, he said a ‘sort of alliance’ has formed.

    In an update on the $40 million-plus theft of 7,000 Bitcoin on May 7, Binance CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao suggested that the cryptocurrency exchange industry may create a more formal alliance to fight thefts and try to prevent thieves from getting away with their ill-gotten gains.
