Rachel Siegel is back with a new video and this one is actually going viral.
Inspired by Rebecca Black’s surprise viral hit from 2011, “Friday,” Siegel and her Crypto, Finally YouTube channel have released “BitPay.”
Modern Consensus broke the story on Siegel and crypto, finally to the world last week, with “Forget environmental damage, this is the worst thing you’ll see about crypto in a long time”, the first article written about Siegel’s videos. The newest video has hundreds of retweets, including from the creator of the popular Chapo Trap House podcast, Will Menaker.
The video doesn’t disappoint. Some lyrical highlights:
“Everyone’s adopting Bitcoin / Don’t be a weirdo”
“Bitpay / Bitpay / They won’t accept my Bitpay / What’s the point of Black Friday sales, fiat losers?!”
“I am surprised by the traction the video is getting,” Siegel told Modern Consensus by phone Wednesday afternoon. “BitPay” has been retweeted hundreds of times, and is getting a few hundred views per hour, according to Siegel.
While Siegel’s previous video featured only her, “BitPay” shows her flexing her directorial muscles, featuring several new actors, nearly all of them young women lip synching the lyrics. When asked if the actors are friends or professionals, Siegel said she was “bound not to disclose any information about them” due to the negative reaction the video has drawn.

“My thesis is: there’s no way to get a common consumer invested in cryptocurrency, wondering what’s going on about blockchain technology so long as we’re tech forward,” Siegel previously explained to us. “Not everyone can understand that.”
We expect this video to do the rounds in Slack channels all over the world this long weekend.
